One of the glamorous dreams of every youngster in India is to join National Defense Academy {NDA} but not everyone get this golden opportunity. For the recruitment of young and talented aspirants the UPSC conducts the written NDA exam twice a year. According to the statistics approximately 250000 candidates appear for the written examination once, out of which only 545 aspirants are being called for the SSB interview and finally the only required number of candidates are being selected by the officials. Almost once in a year the total number of vacant positions available is only 368.

How difficult is it?

Written Exam: Just like the entrance examination of other competitive examination the written examination for NDA is also quiet challenging. But here is also one a good news for all the guys who have a childhood dream of joining forces that NDA is much easier than IIT. So if any student is preparing for IIT then NDA will be quite easy for him.

SSB : The most difficult stage in the whole selection process of NDA. It’s a process which continues for five days and in this course of five each day all your mental abilities will be checked. In this process only 1 out of 3 aspirants qualify and succeed to register his name in the merit list. The SSB session of NDA is quiet difficult but it is one of the best experiences of life as per the aspirants who have appeared for it.

Qualities Recommended

One should have the officer qualities like leadership, team work, decision making, volunteering, etc. for getting selected for the post of an officer through the process of NDA. The thing is that by birth not everyone has all these qualities one will have to develop these qualities by himself. And with an adequate amount of hard work, discipline and dedication one can build up these qualities.

Important information that one should know before applying

The requirement of subjects as for joining the air force and navy are Physics and Math. But on the other hand if one wants to join the Army then he can apply for it from any stream {science, commerce, humanities}.

Applying Procedure

A candidate must pass his 12th class examination as per the guidelines of UPSC. But a student appearing in 12th and has completed a mark of 16 years of age then he can also apply. As we all know that the written examination of NDA is being organized twice a year in behalf of UPSC the NDA – 1 in the month of January and the NDA – 2 in the month of June/July.

Many times we get a common question from the aspirants that how many times we can apply for NDA exam so the answer for this is that one can apply for 3 times in his life.

NDA Eligibility Criteria

The aspirants who are prohibited by the Ministry of Defense from holding any type of Commission in defense services are not eligible to apply. As the rules and regulations of defense are very strict so the aspirants should not hope for any type of relaxation in eligibility criteria because no relaxation is being provided to any candidate except some special case.

The age for applying is from 16 and a half year to 19 and a half year. He should be a 12th passed, or a 12th appearing. And he should be unmarried too.

Physical Qualification

A candidate must be physically and mentally fit as for applying for NDA. As the height of candidate varies the weight of candidate also vary for example a candidate who is having a height 167cms so he should have at least 51kg weight.

But there is a relaxation of 5cms in height for Gorkhas.

Medical Criteria

A candidate must be mentally fit as it is one of the main requirements for NDA.

  • Weight: A candidate must not be obese or too thin as if he is like that then he would be rejected.
  • Chest: a candidate’s chest must be fully developed and it should be at least of 81cm. A candidate must submit his chest x-ray as to confirm that he is not suffering from any chest related disease.
  • ENT: The ear, nose and throat of a candidate must not be infected otherwise he will be rejected.
  • Abdominal and Inner Parts: Urine test should be passed by the candidate, no bone joint should be there, blood pressure should be normal, no signs of injury in spine and no past mental breakdown and fits.

Eyes should have a vision power 6/6. Myopia or Hypermetropia should not be expected.

  • Apply online first.
  • Download the admit card.
  • Appear in the written examination.
  • Result for written exam and call letter for SSB interview.
  • Acid Test: SSB
